Are Your Pies Halal?

July 2, 2022

Looking for a delicious chicken pie...

...that's also made in a kitchen that does not have any pork or lard?
Look no further than Don's Chicken Pies!

Made with generous chunks of chicken, vegetables, mushrooms and some secret spices. We do not use pork or lard in our kitchen, and some of our pie ingredients come from suppliers who hold their own Halal certification.

We prepare our dough entirely in-house. This ensures only the strictest quality control and a ridiculously flaky crust once our pies come out of the oven.

Some have told us that our Black Pepper Chicken Pies are the most tastebud tantalizing pies they've ever had.

Now, to be completely upfront: Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab is not Halal-certified by MUIS, and we do not claim that any of our products are Halal. Under MUIS guidelines, halal compliance extends beyond pie ingredients alone to the overall operational environment and processes of an establishment, and even where our pie ingredients come from Halal-certified suppliers, a supplier's certification does not extend to our kitchen, our processes, or the food we serve.

Here's why. Our Tyrwhitt Road flagship restaurant proudly welcomes pets under our SFA licensing: dogs, cats, and well-behaved companions of every kind dine with us daily, and we also serve alcoholic beverages. The MUIS Halal Certification Conditions for eating establishments state that "Pet dogs are not permitted in halal-certified establishments, including Outdoor Refreshment Areas (ORAs)" (Eating Establishment Scheme: Category 2, Clause 4.3; Category 1, Clause 4.4), and the Singapore Food Agency has confirmed that for halal-certified premises, "pet dogs will continue to not be permitted, including at ORAs". MUIS further clarifies that only guide dogs accompanying blind or visually impaired customers may be admitted to Halal-certified premises. As our flagship restaurant welcomes dogs, it is not able to be Halal-certified. Our furkid regulars were here first, and we'd rather tell you that straight.

Only MUIS issues Halal certification in Singapore. You can verify the certification status of any establishment on the official MUIS Halal directory. Whether our food meets your personal dietary requirements is a decision we leave entirely to you, and we will always answer your questions about any pie ingredient or dish honestly.

Don's Chicken Pies are the perfect choice for those seeking a delicious pie made in a kitchen which does not process pork or lard. Our pies have been featured in various large events ranging from high-profile charity events to school donation drives and even for weddings.

So come by and enjoy a delicious chicken pie from Don's Chicken Pies today! Our chicken pies are also available for delivery and catering.

Halal Certification Status

No pork, no lard in our kitchen. Some of our pie ingredients come from suppliers who hold their own Halal certification. However, MUIS guidelines make clear that halal compliance extends beyond pie ingredients alone to the overall operational environment and processes of an establishment.

The Singapore Food Agency confirmed the same when updating its pet dining rules in January 2025: for halal-certified premises, "pet dogs will continue to not be permitted, including at ORAs". MUIS further clarifies that only guide dogs accompanying blind or visually impaired customers may be admitted to Halal-certified premises.
