Storing & Re-heating Chef Don’s Pies

October 9, 2022

Baking Chicken Pies since 1983.

Pies are a staple in our menu for close to four decades now, and also our best-selling pastry. Our Chicken Pies are convenient, delicious, and perfect for all ages.

But what about storing our Chicken Pies when you can't finish them on the day itself?

Is there a correct way to do it? How long do DonChef's Chicken Pies last? Let's find out.

It is important to store our Chicken Pies and Black Pepper Chicken Pies correctly in order to ensure that they are fresh, safe to eat and more importantly retain their great taste. Chicken Pies should be stored in the refrigerator and can be kept overnight for up to 5 days from purchase. However, there are some things to keep in mind when storing our Chicken Pies.

First, our Chicken Pies should be covered. Keep them in our original packaging - the Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab signature green box. But if that's not available, use a covered container. This will help to keep them fresh and prevent them from drying out in the refrigerator. This applies to our Chicken Shepherd's Pie as well, too.

Second, Chicken Pies should be eaten within five days of your purchase. We bake all our pastries freshly in-house in our restaurant at 39 Tyrwhitt Road, so you get only the freshest bakes with each visit. After five days, the quality of the pie will start to decline and you might notice a difference in taste.

Finally, when reheating Chef Don's Chicken Pies, be sure to reheat them until they are piping hot all the way through. This will help to kill any bacteria that may have formed while the pie was stored.

Out from the refrigerator, we've experimented and found that these settings work best:

If you're using a traditional oven, you can heat our pies around 150C to 180C, for 20 to 30 minutes. The low heat coupled with a slightly longer heating time ensures that even the core is sufficiently heated up.

If you have a microwave oven and an air fryer, we find that microwaving our pies from 1 to 1.5 minutes to warm the pie's core from the inside, and then place it in your air fryer for 2 to 3 mins to get our signature crust back to tip-top shape.

Storing Chicken Pies overnight is possible with proper planning, execution and reheating.

By following these simple storage and reheating tips, you can enjoy Don's fresh and delicious Chicken Pies for days to come.
