We've been baking great Chicken Pies for 41 years
First & Second Generation Entrepreneur
Lim Tee Kheng (林世耿) a first-generation immigrant from the Hainan province of China set up shop in the 1960s at Singapore’s Purvis Street as one of Singapore’s chicken rice hawker pioneers.
Don Lim (林德發), the 9th child of Tee Kheng started working for Hewlett-Packard (HP) as an apprentice baker where he eventually created Singapore’s Original Chicken Pie. This pie quickly became a hot favorite among staff and they would order it for their friends and family and encouraged him to setup a shop.
Don needed financing and he went to the bank to persuade them that he had a good idea and that he knew how to bake. Don brought his famed Chicken Pie during his meeting with the bank officer and it worked. In 2000, Don started his first pie shop at Far East Square which quickly grew to a sprawling restaurant opposite the street at China Square Central. It was through hard work, determination and the support if his family that helped grow Don Pie both locally and regionally.
In 2014, he sold away the brand which has since changed hands multiple times.
Third Generation Entrepreneur
During the pandemic in 2021, Don approached his nephew Kelvin Leong to help revive the business. Loyal customers remember Kelvin as the “Primary School Boy” who not only built Don Pie’s first online presence but also served as extra help in the kitchen almost 20 years ago.
With the mantel now passed on to the new generation, Kelvin confidently oversees the operations at Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab and is committed to preserving the same time-honoured recipe that customers have come to love over the years.
